BIE General Assembly officially approves Expo 2020 Dubai date change

29. 5. 2020

The General Assembly of the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) has approved the one-year postponement of Expo 2020 Dubai. As a result, the dates of Expo 2020 Dubai have officially changed to 1 October 2021 – 31 March 2022. The event will keep the name “Expo 2020 Dubai”.

The change was caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, which slowing down of deliveries and work on the EXPO essentially makes it impossible for most countries to complete their national pavilions and exhibitions on time. The EXPO organisers, therefore, submitted a proposal to the BIE for an annual deferral in accordance with Article 28 of the 1928 Paris Convention, stating that the period for expressing the opinion of the voting members was five weeks, i.e. until 29/05/2020.
