The Concept of the Exposition
The national exposition should be an illustration of the best that current Czech science and culture have to offer. The key to attracting attention and recognition is a strong and clear topic of the national exposition that complements the topic of EXPO, moreover it is a presentation of scientific and technological potential in areas where the Czech Republic can stand out on a global scale and, lastly, it is a show of contemporary art and applied design – or ideally a connection of these attributes, which is the ambition of Czech Republic’s pavilion concept.
The pavilion design refers to the S.A.W.E.R. system (solar-air-water-earth-resource), which creates water out of the air using solar energy and cultivates the desert using subsurface cultures. It is also the technological core of the national exposition. The organic structure made out of bioplastic pipes is directly connected to the S.A.W.E.R. system turning a passive decoration into an active part of the system.
The capillary spring grow out of a garden created by cultivating the desert in direct contact with the centre of gravity of the pavilion. In the exterior, a cloud providing shade for the flower beds and visitors entering the pavilion and it flows into the interior as a source of crystal clear and cool water the interior as a source of cold, crystal-clear water. It directly communicates with the monumental installation of designer crystal clear glass, which is located in one of the axes of the entrance hall.
Therefore, Czech Republic's national pavilion at the EXPO 2020 in Dubai will offer room for two permanent exhibits, which will represent the original technological innovations and modern design of contemporary artists. The S.A.W.E.R. that will create water out of thin air using solar energy and fertilise the desert using subsurface cultures and a monumental glass installation from the company LASVIT. Both exhibits, which are meant to be the two major crowd magnets, will be placed in the entrance hall of the pavilion – neighbouring the restaurant and the meeting room. The floor above will be turned into an exhibition gallery, meant for the rotating expositions, each of which will last for two weeks and which will offer the space to competitive Czech companies.
