Czech regions attract tourists in the national pavilion of the EXPO 2010
Shanghai, 13/7/2010
For ten days the multimedia hall of the Czech pavilion at EXPO 2010 in Shanghai will be taken over by the region of the Czech Republic. The common presentation directed by CzechTourism will take place from the 12 until the 21 of July and will offer guests a tasting of regional specialties and meals: the selection of South Moravian wines, the beers Radegast and Zlatopramen, Stará myslivecká and gingerbread from Pardubice. The permanent menu of the Czech restaurant on the EXPO 2010 then offers Becherovka or Budějovický Budvar, which already have their distributors in China.
"We want to show the visitors of the national pavilion that Czech Republic is a very diverse country and that each of the fourteen regions has much to offer to even the most demanding tourists," says acting director of CzechTourism Paul Kosař, who will begin the ten days of Czech regions on the EXPO.
Chinese tourists are, according to the Association of Czech travel agencies, the fastest growing international clientele. Last year 62 000 of them came to the Czech Republic and while the number of visitors from Germany decreased due to the economic crisis, more and more Chinese are coming and even have more buying power.
“We expect the interest in the Czech Republic to grow even more this year,” guesses Jiří Vávra, the director of CzechTourism, “in the national pavilion, we want to show, that Czech Republic is not only Prague and that it pays off to visit other regions as well.
The peak day of the Czech and Moravian regions will be the 17th of July, when folk music, Czech songs from the thirties and a modern combination of classical and beat music will succeed each other on the stage of the European Square. The day program will be accompanied by a quiz competition, in which viewers will answer questions related to the Czech Republic. The most active regions will then present their own programmes in the premises of the Czech pavilion and the five regional delegations, which will arrive in Shanghai, will not only include several governors and councillors, but also the representatives of regional chambers and businessmen.
“The Czech participation on the EXPO 2010 has, unlike most historical ones, a significant economic stress,” reminds Jiří F. Potužník, the manager of marketing and communications, “we are glad of course, that apart from our partners, the spaces meant for business meetings are used by other subjects as well.”
During the first two months, the multimedia hall and the meeting room in the Czech pavilion has been used by seven companies for their presentations.
