The creators of the Czech pavilion present their scale model as part of the national exposition
Praha, 14/8/2009
The Commissioner General for the participation of the Czech Republic in the EXPO 2010 World Exposition, Ing. Pavel Antonín Stehlík, MBA together with Ing. arch. Jaromír Švarc, the Director of Film Dekor, spol. s.r.o., today presented a scale model of the Czech pavilion along with 1:1 scale modules in which the individual exhibits of the national exhibition will be housed. On 28th April, the Czech Republic will occupy its pavilion which has an area of over 2,000 m² and a daily visitor capacity of up to 30,000 people, as the first of nearly two hundred hosting countries.
The name of the Czech exposition is “Fruits of Civilisation” and in the spirit of the motto for the whole exhibition “Better City - Better Life” presents the Czech Republic as a crossroads of thoughts, cultures, values and technologies which it creates and preserves.
“This day is important for us, particularly as we have now transferred from the study phase to the implementation phase” says Ing. Pavel Antonín Stehlík, MBA, the Commissioner General for the participation of the Czech Republic in the EXPO 2010 World Exposition before adding: “As far as I know, no other country will be presented in a similar fashion”.
The individual expositions within the national pavilion will be placed in 22 modules, each with dimensions of 4x4 metres. The majority will be suspended above the undulated grassy countryside and will create the impression of levitating city tower blocks reflecting the harmony between the city and nature. At the same time, the cubes will protect the individual exhibits - the fruits of civilisation.
“It is such an unusual method of presenting exhibits that we have to test all the modules and exhibits, including how they affect the viewer”, says Ing. arch. Jaromír Švarc, Director of Film Dekor, spol. s.r.o. “We will not have time to carry out similar experiments once we are in Shanghai”, adds Švarc.
The exhibition topics range from art, through design, up to urbanism and science and some will be interactive. Two of the designers of the exhibits are Federico Díaz and Jakub Nepraš.
A Czech “gem” with a relief for happiness - the sculpture of Jan Nepomucky will travel from Charles Bridge to Shanghai along with the relief which is located just below it and which is touched by visitors to Prague in order to find true happiness.
The Czech Republic pavilion is ideally located on the European square near the Sky Walk, the main visiting route for EXPO 2010. The pavilion’s façade is a stylized map of the historical city of Prague, consisting of 63,415 hockey pucks - symbols of Czech sport and business success.
