EXPO 2010: Czech Pavilion at EXPO 2010 in Shanghai Takes Silver

Shanghai, 30 October 2010: In the evening of the last day of the biggest General World Fair of all time – EXPO 2010 in Shanghai – the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) awarded the Czech “Fruits of Civilisation” exposition as the second most creative in the leased pavilions category. It is the first time since Montreal 1967 that this Paris-based organisation awarded one of the main prizes to the Czech national participation at EXPO.

Three Records in Three Days

Shanghai, 19 October 2010: The Czech pavilion at the General World Fair in Shanghai had its eighth millionth visitor today. Yesterday, the Fruits of Civilisation exposition was visited by a record number of people in a day, and the record for a one-day visit to EXPO 2010 fell on October 16th. The eighth millionth visitor to the Czech pavilion was Li Chai Pching from Shanghai. This thirty-eight-year-old building manager chose to visit the Czech pavilion at the recommendation of her parents, who had already visited the pavilion. When accepting the gifts, she did not hide her enthusiasm, also for the reason that the number “8” is considered lucky in China.

Elmarco Day was held in Czech Pavilion at EXPO 2010 Shanghai

Elmarco, the world recognized producer of machines for industrial scale nanofiber production organised a special event called „Elmarco Day“ which was held in Czech Pavilion at EXPO 2010 Shanghai on Saturday, October 16, 2010. Inovative and unique Elmarco’s NanospiderTM production process was selected as one of the exhibits in the Czech Pavilion at EXPO 2010 and has been shown there since the opening day in May. EXPO 2010 is the first time for the Czech Republic to demonstrate its strong position in nanotechnology innovation at an international level.

EXPO 2010: Czechoslovak-Chinese Friendship Farm buys Czech Fruits of Civilisation Exposition

The commissioner-general of the Czech participation of the General World Fair EXPO 2010 in Shanghai, Pavel Antonín Stehlík, signed a purchase agreement this afternoon with the Czechoslovak-Chinese Friendship Farm, the subject of the agreement being the Czech exposition. The Czechoslovak-Chinese Friendship Farm, an agglomeration which is to have a million inhabitants within ten years, will pay approximately thirty-one million Czech crowns for the twenty-two exhibits and other dismountable components of the Czech pavilion, including the internal steel construction and the hockey pucks covering the facade. A building exactly like the one being leased by the Czech Republic on the Shanghai EXPO grounds will be built in the Che-pei (Hebei) region, and the exposition should be up and running again by 2012.

EXPO 2010: Over seven million people have now seen Czech exposition

Over seven million people have already passed through the Czech Pavilion at the Universal World's Fair in Shanghai. The seven millionth visitor was thirty-year-old Reynaldo Marino Twerda, originally from the Philippines but adopted by a Danish couple. The production manager of a prestigious Shanghai club first had dinner with his parents at the Czechia restaurant, where he was drawn in by draught Budvar and goulash, and then entered the exposition.

The Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic presented antiretroviral drugs and also study opportunities

On September 23 the meeting room of the Czech pavilion hosted a presentation by the Institute of Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic. The respected research institute presented to Chinese partner institutions a range of substances used to generate antiretrovirals used to treat AIDS. The substances, developed by the team led by Professor Antonín Holý, are the basis for the most effective drugs of their kind in the world and long-term tests have shown that some can even have a preventive function.

EXPO: Charles University presents at Czech Pavilion

Shanghai, 7 September 2010: Charles University is also using the Czech Pavilion at EXPO 2010 to promote itself. The Faculty of Social Sciences is reaching out to both partner universities and individual potential students in Shanghai. According to the director of the Institute of Economic Studies Michal Mejstřík, Chinese youth are more and more interested in studying abroad and Charles University can offer them a wide range of educational and grant opportunities. The Faculty of Social Sciences already works with the Shanghai's prestigious Fudan University, which is represented at the day-long debate programme by the Vice Dean of its Economic Faculty, Sun Lijan.

Czech Literature Weeks began in the Czech Pavilion

Visitors to the Czech pavilion at the General World Fair Expo 2010 have the opportunity to become acquainted with the biggest names in Czech literature. In the kaleidoscope of pearls of the Czech Republic, one can come across the names Milan Kundera and Karel Čapek. Then the exhibit entitled Franz Kafka and Prague and the first Chinese translation of the Arnošt Lustig’s book "White Birches in the Autumn" can be seen in the multimedia hall starting September 4th. Lustig launched the Czech Literature Weeks in person, together with Czech Minister of Culture Jiří Besser and Chinese students of Czech studies, by a reading of certain chapters from his book.

EXPO 2010: Czech Fashion Week started

Alongside the "Archive of Miracles" exhibit of Czech design taking place in the multimedia hall of the Czech Republic's EXPO 2010 pavilion in Shanghai is also a presentation of Czech fashion. Five leading Czech designers dealt with the topic of "Memory", creating distinctive collections of ten models each. Although they did not consult each other, their work is bound not only by the theme, but also by its creative originality and the way it breaks down existing modes.
