Exposition Site

The expansive exposition site of EXPO 2010, on 5.3 km², is being built in a dynamically growing part of Shanghai called Pudong, which in 2010 will celebrate 20 years of its existence. The site straddles both banks of the Huangpu River near the city centre. In accordance with the theme of the World EXPO, the newly-developed site will enhance the former peripheral industrial zone, around which, in the meantime, Shanghai, with its 18 million inhabitants, is growing.

The pavilions are separated into five sections according to where they belong geographically. The Czech Republic has leased a unified module C, set aside for European states. The entire exposition site is linked by the Walking Highway. Four metro lines, the highway and the port are in the immediate vicinity of the site.

As well as national and company pavilions, the exposition site EXPO 2010 in Shanghai will see several themed expositions, devoted to the actual problems of today’s urban areas. As a novelty, EXPO 2010 has prepared "Urban Best Practice Area" on the left bank of the Huangpu River, which will present 30 selected international urban projects. The capital city of Prague with its unique system of anti-flood barriers, protecting its historical heritage, was selected as one of the winning projects, from among 116 registered participants.
