Chinese architectonic pearls
Shanghai, 24/11/2008
EXPO is a traditional platform for architectural experiments. The Chinese organizers of the World Exposition, apart from the construction of a monumental domestic pavilion, are also building themed expositions, service and information buildings. The emphasis here will be on effective architecture and ecology.

THE CHINESE PAVILION
THE CHINESE PAVILION
The latest interpretation of traditional Chinese architecture is the 63 metre high Chinese pavilion, nicknamed the "Crown of the East." The creators are working with traditional symbolism used for more than two millennia. The clearest, without a doubt, is the layered roof in the form of a reverse pyramid. On grounds of 20 thousand m², the exposition authors are aiming at traditional Chinese values of harmony, spirituality and harmony with nature.

EXPO CENTER
EXPO CENTER
The seven storey high building with a glass roof and one underground level, will serve as the information and media centre. It will also be the hub for official ceremonies and gatherings. A space of an unbelievable 142 thousand m² holds 108 meeting rooms, where the largest one has a capacity of 2,600. After EXPO ends, it will serve as an international conference centre which will lend its space for various cultural events. Construction is supposed to be finished in November of next year and from January 2010 the centre will operate under a pilot program. The centre is one of the three most ecologically friendly projects in China.

EXPO VILLAGE
EXPO VILLAGE
The EXPO village has a number of luxury hotels, which will be the home base for delegates of the participating countries and organizations, as well as the service personnel. After EXPO ends, part of the village will be kept; the rest will be demolished and the material recycled.

PERFORMANCE CENTER

The futuristic construction reminds one of a gigantic flying saucer. The structure of 45 thousand m² will become the stage for all types of performances and artistic presentation. Entertainment actions will become its stock-in-trade after the EXPO ends.
